How Can I Display Live Streaming and TV on My ScreenCloud Screens?

This article will go through how to use live streaming videos on your digital screens with ScreenCloud.

ScreenCloud supports several ways to display live video and streaming content on your screens, from live events and broadcasts to IPTV and TV channels. This article outlines each option and how to get started.

YouTube Live

Use the YouTube Live app to display any public YouTube Live stream on your screens, including sporting events, company presentations, or live broadcasts. in portrait or landscape format.

The YouTube video must be set to public. Videos restricted to YouTube.com only will not display in ScreenCloud.

Live News

The Live News app provides access to a selection of live news channels that can be added directly to your screens without any additional setup. Live News sources are currently live and operational β€” content is pulled from available YouTube channel news live streams and updated automatically as streams go live.

Embed app

If a live stream is publicly accessible and embeddable, you may be able to display it on your screens using the ScreenCloud Embed app. This works by embedding the public URL of the live stream directly into your screen layout. Please note that this is dependent on the source allowing public iframe embedding. Streams that restrict third-party embedding will not display correctly.

IPTV via the Playgrounds app

If you already use an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) service, you can connect it to ScreenCloud using the Playgrounds app and its Live Stream template.

Make sure you have the appropriate licensing or permissions to display the livestream content on your screens and in your locations.

ScreenCloud Broadcast

For live meeting or conference events and OBS streaming

ScreenCloud Broadcast is a premium feature (available on Pro plan and above) designed for streaming live events, meetings, and presentations directly to your screens. It supports third-party tools such as OBS.

To set up OBS with ScreenCloud Broadcast:

  1. Open the ScreenCloud Broadcast app

  2. Create or select your live stream instance

  3. Go to the Live Video Setup tab

  4. Copy your unique Streaming URL and Stream Key

  5. In OBS, set the service to Custom

  6. Paste the Streaming URL into the Server field and the Stream Key into the Stream Key field

Broadcast sessions are valid for up to 3 hours and refresh after each event. It is intended for events and meetings, not continuous channel streaming.

ScreenCloud Broadcast also supports streaming Microsoft Teams meetings and Town Hall events.

What about live TV and cable channels?

Direct streaming of traditional TV or cable subscriptions is not natively supported in ScreenCloud. However, if you use an IPTV service, the Playgrounds app offers a practical alternative. See the IPTV section with the Playgrounds app above. You can also learn more about mixing live TV with ScreenCloud digital signage here.

ScreenCloud does not currently support connecting external services or hardware to play live tv or streaming content through a secondary zone. For live streaming in your layouts, please use one of the supported options outlined above.

  • Your Streaming URL and Stream Key are entered correctly in OBS

  • Live News app sources are currently live and operational. Content is pulled from available YouTube channel news live streams and updated automatically as streams go live.

  • Your stream is publicly accessible and not restricted to a local network or specific IP addresses

  • Your stream is not behind a login, paywall, or passcode

  • Your network is not blocking the required ScreenCloud domains. Refer to the whitelist guide if needed
