If a video freezes, stutters, or glitches while playing on screen, this is usually caused by the video's format or file size not being compatible with the hardware it's playing on. When a video isn't in a format the device supports, ScreenCloud's video conversion may not convert it correctly, which can lead to playback issues like freezing or glitching.
Different device models support different video codecs and formats. A video that plays fine on one screen may not be compatible with another, so the accepted formats can vary depending on the hardware you're using.
This issue applies specifically to media videos you've uploaded to ScreenCloud Studio. If a video is glitching within an app (for example, with the ScreenCloud YouTube or Vimeo apps), this article won't resolve it. In that case, see the video playback troubleshooting guide instead.
The best way to resolve issues with uploaded playing on your screens with the ScreenCloud player is to reformat the video into a widely accepted format before uploading it to Studio.
Step 1: Check your video format and size
Videos created in tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, or PosterMyWall don't always export in a format or size that plays reliably on all hardware. Large file sizes or uncommon codecs are the most common causes of freezing and glitching.
For the best results, aim for:
Format: H.264 (also known as AVC) encoded in an MP4 container
Audio: AAC encoding within the MP4 container
Frame rate: 30fps (ScreenCloud players currently only support 30fps)
Step 2: Get your video into a widely accepted format
If your video isn't in the format above, you have a few options:
Reformat it yourself using a video conversion tool you already have
Ask for a different version from whoever provided you with the video, in the format and size listed above
Use HandBrake, a free, open source video converter available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, if you don't have another tool available
How to convert your video with HandBrake
See more details on how to do this here.
Download and install HandBrake from handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Open your video file in HandBrake
Select the Fast 1080p 30 preset
Name your output file and click Start to convert
Step 3: Replace the video in Studio
Once your video has been converted, upload it to ScreenCloud Studio and replace the original file that was freezing or glitching.
If the video is already placed in a channel or playlist, you can use the Find & Replace feature to swap it out in just a few clicks, rather than removing the old file and uploading the new one manually.
Click the video in your channel, playlist, or media library
Click Find & Replace
Review where the video is used, and select the locations you want to update
Click Choose Replacement
Upload your reformatted video, or select it from your media library
Compare the two, then click Replace
The video be listed just where it was before in the channel or playlist.
Still Having Issues?
If your reformatted video still glitches on the hardware, this may be a device performance issue rather than a format issue. See the video playback troubleshooting guide for further steps.
If you're still having trouble after trying these steps, contact ScreenCloud Support and let us know which video you're having trouble with, along with details on the hardware and paired screen.
