How to Install ScreenCloud Player on the Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to install the ScreenCloud Player app on the Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

With the release of the Amazon Signage Stick, it is recommended that you purchase this device over an Amazon Fire TV device if you are intending to set up ScreenCloud. Amazon has created this new device to work perfectly with digital signage, so that your content will no longer be interrupted by the Fire TV home screen and other consumer and home services. Please refer to How to Set Up ScreenCloud on the Amazon Signage Stick for Digital Signage to learn how the device works and how you can set up ScreenCloud to display your digital signage content.

Additionally, for Smart TVs like TCL Roku TVs that don't natively support ScreenCloud, Fire TV Stick devices can provide an effective alternative display solution.

To use ScreenCloud on Smart TVs, such as TCL Roku TVs, external devices like Fire TV Sticks may be required. These devices bridge the gap by offering compatibility for TV models that do not support the app natively, enabling seamless digital signage content display.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a great little device for digital signage and since it was launched in 2016, the 2nd Generation Fire TV Stick has been the easiest to recommend with a solid performance at a very low price. The problem is that you can only get the 2nd Generation Fire TV Stick in select countries, so Amazon solved this by launching the Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, which is the same as the 2nd Generation Fire TV Stick and has the same specs, but the Basic Edition is made for the international market and ships to over 100 countries. The only real difference between the two is that the 2nd Generation Fire TV Stick comes with an Alexa Voice Remote while the Basic Edition does not.

If you're planning to use a Fire TV Stick with a Smart TV like a TCL Roku TV, ensure the device is listed as compatible with ScreenCloud. Checking the latest compatibility documentation on ScreenCloud's help site is advised.

There is one problem though with the Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition that affects our ScreenCloud users. The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition does not have the search capabilities that allow you to search for and download apps like the 2nd Generation Fire TV Stick does (see here). This means it's not possible to download the ScreenCloud Player app easily.

There is a solution for this though, you can install apps directly to the device via your Amazon account.

To do this:

  1. First, make sure you have registered your Fire TV Stick Basic Edition. If you need help with this, follow this guide

  2. Go to www.amazon.com and log in with the account you used to register your Fire TV Stick Basic Edition

  3. Next, go to the page for ScreenCloud's Player app for Fire TV devices here and under "Deliver to:" on the right, choose to deliver the app to your Fire TV Stick Basic Edition

  4. After you have added the ScreenCloud Player app, on your device, use the remote to navigate to "my apps". You will see the ScreenCloud Player app and be able to launch it

  5. When the app launches, it will ask you if you want the app to boot when the device turns on. Select yes

  6. Make a note of the pairing code, this is the code you need to enter into your "Screens" section of your account

Connecting Fire TV Sticks to Smart TVs like TCL Roku Models

  1. Connect your Fire TV Stick to an available HDMI port on your Smart TV.

  2. Power on both your TV and Fire TV Stick.

  3. Complete the initial Fire TV Stick setup including Wi-Fi connection and Amazon account linking.

  4. Follow the steps above to install and launch the ScreenCloud app on the Fire TV Stick.

  5. Pair and display your content using the ScreenCloud app as guided. This process ensures your Smart TV functions seamlessly with ScreenCloud content, even if the TV doesn't support the app natively.
