Setting up your dashboard in Datadog
Get started by logging in to your Datadog account and opening the dashboard you'd like to display. Please note, Datadog is a third-party and external service not affiliated with ScreenCloud. If you have any concerns or challenges while using the service, you can feel free to reach out to our support team here, though we recommend also connecting with the Datadog support team directly if you have any questions regarding their service.
Make sure your dashboard is ready to share. You'll create the share link directly from the dashboard, so there's no need to set up sharing beforehand.
Creating an embed link in Datadog
Here is how you create a shared embed code for your Datadog Dashboard:
Select your Datadog dashboards Share button in the top right corner.
In the Select a Share Type step, choose Embed.
In the Select Embed Type step, choose Basic.
In Configure dashboard, set your desired name, default timeframe, and theme.
In Restrict access, add the following referrers under Referrer address so that the dashboard will load correctly on ScreenCloud players and within the Embed app. Add each one individually and click Add Referrer after each:
Click Share Dashboard to finish. A confirmation will appear with a Copy Embed Code button. Click this to copy the embed code to your clipboard.
If you missed the confirmation, you can find the embed code afterwards by clicking Share on the dashboard, selecting Manage Shared Dashboards, then clicking Edit next to your shared dashboard. The Embed Code field will be shown directly, along with a Copy Embed Code button.
Adding your Datadog dashboard to your digital screens
Within your ScreenCloud account, click on the App Store and search for the Embed app.
Click on the Embed app and select Get app or Go to App.
Paste the full embed code from Datadog into the Embed app. Additionally, make sure to name your app (for example, "Datadog — Production Overview") so you can easily identify it later.
You can preview the app by selecting the Preview button once you've pasted the URL to view what the Datadog dashboard will look like on your screen.
Select the yellow Save & Close button and now the Embed app instance will be installed into your ScreenCloud account. You can now use your Datadog dashboard via the Embed app on any of your screens, channels, and playlists.
Troubleshooting
If your Datadog dashboard doesn't load as expected, please check the following:
The dashboard appears blank or shows an access error: Confirm that all four referrers (
https://api.screen.cloud,https://player.screen.cloud,https://embed.apps.screencloud.com, andhttps://*screencloud.com) have been added and saved in Datadog. Also make sure the link was generated using the Embed share type and that the device running ScreenCloud can reach Datadog over your network. The Embed app shows Datadog in the browser but not on screen: Datadog embed links may not render on players running on older hardware. For more information, see Why Certain Apps Cannot Display on Older Samsung Tizen, LG webOS Signage, and BrightSign Models.
The Embed app shows a blank page or an error after pasting the URL: Make sure you've pasted the full
<iframe>embed code copied from Datadog, not just the dashboard URL. The Embed app requires the complete tag, for example:<iframe src="https://p.datadoghq.com/sb/embed/[dashboard-identifier]" title="Dashboard Name" width="800" height="800"></iframe>
