Microsoft Power BI - Permission requirements

Learn how to fix Power BI dashboards not displaying in ScreenCloud by checking permissions, admin approval, and network access.

Updated over a week ago

If your Power BI dashboards are not displaying in ScreenCloud, the issue is likely related to access permissions or network restrictions, not a full ScreenCloud outage. Follow this guide to identify and fix the problem.

Confirm Access Permissions

When using Power BI with ScreenCloud, your organization’s Microsoft 365 Administrator must approve the app integration. Without this approval, Power BI cannot connect to ScreenCloud.

  • Ensure you have Admin access to your Power BI account.

  • When connecting Power BI to ScreenCloud, an approval request is automatically sent to your Microsoft Administrator.

  • The Administrator must review and approve the request before the integration will work.

  • ScreenCloud Support cannot approve or override this step. It must be done internally for security reasons.

Pre-Approval for Organizations with Strict Security Policies

Some organizations block individual users from granting app permissions through the OAuth process.

If that’s the case, your IT Admin must pre-approve ScreenCloud’s Power BI app for all users.

To do this, use the following URL (replace both values in { } as suggested below):

https://login.microsoftonline.com/{tenant-id}/adminconsent?client_id={client-id}
  • tenant-id → Found in your Microsoft 365 Admin Center (see Microsoft’s guide).

  • client-id → Use ScreenCloud’s registered app ID: f6f7848e-3390-4296-95a9-bd39b2347bae

When opened, this link will prompt the admin to sign in and grant consent to ScreenCloud’s Power BI app.

Check Network Restrictions

If permissions are correct but dashboards still won’t load:

  • Ensure there are no firewalls, VPN restrictions, or network blocks preventing access to Power BI domains.

  • Whitelist the Microsoft endpoints recommended here.

Even with correct credentials, blocked domains can prevent ScreenCloud from fetching Power BI reports.

Re-Authentication & App Instance Issues

If your Power BI app instances stop working after re-verifying Microsoft credentials:

  • Existing Power BI app instances cannot be re-authenticated in ScreenCloud.

  • Create new app instances and replace the old ones in your playlists to apply updated credentials.

  • This ensures your dashboards reconnect properly using the latest authentication tokens.

Accessing the Power BI App in ScreenCloud

If you don’t see the Power BI app in your account:

  • It’s available with a Pro or Enterprise plan.

  • Contact ScreenCloud Support or your Account Manager to enable it.

FAQ

Why can’t I access my Power BI reports even with Admin access?

Your network might still be blocking Microsoft domains. Ask IT to verify and whitelist Power BI endpoints.

Do I need to replace my app instances after credential changes?

Yes. After Microsoft 365/Power BI re-verification, you must create new Power BI app instances in ScreenCloud.
