When you have finished recording your Dashboard journey, Step 1 in your actions panel is titled Manage Session and will look like this.
Please note, that the refresh rate does not directly configure how often a dashboard will update. If your dashboard tool updates automatically then we will update your dashboards in 'close to' real time, roughly every 5 seconds.
The Refresh Rate setting controls the time period during which the dashboard tool will consider a current browser and/or user session to be active. Once this time period has elapsed, the dashboard service will end the current session and re-run all the steps in the journey, including the login steps (if any), to ensure that a new session is created with the data provider site, at which point the service can resume taking snapshots.
The refresh rate defaults to 10 minutes when each dashboard is created. However, a lower or higher refresh rate may be required according to the dashboard's self-refresh rate or login method. Below are the suggestions for the session refresh rate you should select according to your dashboard setup:
The dashboard site is dynamic and constantly updating - ScreenCloud Dashboards does not support dynamic sites, unfortunately, as the dashboard on your screen can only update every 5 minutes. If possible, we advise that you use Links, the Embed app, or the Playgrounds app to attempt to display this type of site.
The dashboard site self-updates and refreshes on its own - We recommend that you set the session refresh rate to be 5 minutes before your dashboard's self-refresh rate. For example, if your dashboard refreshes every 30 minutes, please set the refresh rate setting to 25 minutes for the site inside the ScreenCloud dashboard app. However, if the login or refresh session lasts only up to 5 or 10 minutes, you can set the refresh rate to a minimum of 5 minutes. Setting this to a lower number will not display on your screens.
The dashboard site does not self-update or refresh on its own - If the dashboard or site needs to be refreshed manually to receive data updates, you can make use of the manage session refresh rate setting and set it to the appropriate value. 10 minutes is a good general refresh rate to select. However, you can review this article for some consideration before altering this configuration.
The dashboard site is behind a third-party login - When a site is behind a third-party login, such as Microsoft or Google Authenticator, you must always set a session refresh rate to push the login session again, as these login sessions expire. If you are not sure when the dashboard login session expires, we suggest a session refresh rate of 15 minutes. If you experience issues with this session refresh rate, please find out the maximum login duration and set the session refresh rate to 5 minutes before this. For example, if the login session is deemed to be 60 minutes, you can see the session refresh rate to 55 minutes.
If you have already set up a dashboard for your screens but need to adjust its session refresh rate to resolve issues it may be experiencing, you can re-record the dashboard journey to make these changes.
