Microsoft Power BI - Permission requirements

Updated over a week ago

If you are experiencing an issue displaying your dashboard with the Microsoft Power BI app, the cause of this could be that the access permissions are not yet approved for the connection to be made. You can review this guide to learn how to resolve this.

When using ScreenCloud during the free trial, integrating third-party apps like Microsoft Power BI requires specific administrative approval to ensure smooth and secure app functionality.

Some customers that use PowerBI and ScreenCloud have quite strict security policies that strictly forbid their users from individually granting permissions to apps through the OAuth process. This means that an individual from the company will not be able to use our Microsoft PowerBI app offering unless they get the permissions pre-approved for the whole company through the process below. This means the user only has to login and will not have to agree to the permissions the app requires on the first login that they would have to do otherwise.

Upon initiating the integration of the Microsoft Power BI app with ScreenCloud, a request for approval is automatically generated and sent to your organization's Microsoft administrator. Their role is crucial as they are responsible for reviewing and approving the access request to enable app integration.

Approval Process

  1. Requesting Approval: A request is automatically generated and sent to your organization’s Microsoft administrator when initiating the integration.

  2. Administrator Approval: The administrator must review and approve the request to enable the app's integration with ScreenCloud.

  3. ScreenCloud Support: Note that ScreenCloud support does not have authority over approving these integration requests, as this needs to be managed internally by your organization.

To set this up you need to insert two bits of information to the URL at bottom of this article (replace the two variables including the curly braces).

  • tenant-id: this is the tenant id of the customer and can be found using this guide from Microsoft.

  • client-id: this is our client id from our registered app and the current value is

This link below should prompt the user to login and confirm consent to the permissions required by the app.

Don't see Microsoft Power BI app in your account? This feature can be added to your account with an upgrade to the Pro or Enterprise plan. Please reach out to ScreenCloud support or your account manager to get help with this.

Additionally, please note that ScreenCloud support does not have authority over approving these integration requests. This process must be handled internally within your organization to maintain robust security protocols.
