If you ever come to a situation where you need to change the device of your screen, where you might be replacing the hardware due to its age or you are upgrading to a better model, you can use the Replace Device option to transfer your screen license over to your new replacement device. See the two methods of replacing a screen below.
Please make sure to have your new screen and the ScreenCloud player running on the replacement device and showing the pairing code, as this will be needed to perform the change. Not sure how to set up ScreenCloud on a device and show the pairing code? Please see An Introduction to ScreenCloud: How to Use ScreenCloud for Digital Signage to learn how to do this.
Please also note that you can perform the Replace Device action even with an Offline screen.
ScreenCloud's subscription licensing follows a one-license-per-screen model, meaning each screen requires its own licensed device. Ensuring proper device replacement prevents duplicate licenses and avoids additional charges. These guidelines are essential for maintaining compliance and efficient billing management.
Method 1: Replace a Screen Using the Replace Device Button
When viewing your screens in Studio, you can find a Replace Device option by selecting a screens option button, represented by 3 dots.
Continue by writing in the pairing code of the new screen and device that you've prepared, and hit Continue.
You’ve now swapped your screen license from your old device to a new device. The old screen should also be showing a pairing code again at this point.
Method 2: Replace a Screen Using the New Screen Flow
You can also replace a screens device when you add a New Screen.
When you input the pairing code, click the Replace device instead button.
Select the screen that you wish to replace and click Confirm.
Your screen will then be replaced. You’ll notice that the old screen will display a pairing code after this is done.
Fixing duplicate screens after re-pairing without using Replace Device
If you reinstall the ScreenCloud app or re-pair a device with a new pairing code without using “Replace Device,” ScreenCloud registers it as a new screen license, even if it’s the same physical device. This can result in what appear to be duplicate screens in your account and may also cause an extra charge for the additional license.
To fix this, identify which screen is currently active, rename it for clarity, and remove any duplicate or inactive entries. A quick way to spot unused screen licenses is to check if they appear as “offline” in your account.
If an extra license was added by mistake while re-pairing a device because of an issue or hardware replacement, please contact ScreenCloud Support to request a refund and have your license count adjusted. Before a refund can be issued, the number of active screens in your account must match the number of licenses you intend to keep.
