How to set up Jira two-step verification for Dashboards

Set up 2FA with Atlassian and Jira for secure Dashboard access. Credentials are cloud-stored and encrypted, ensuring safe, secure displays.

Please note that this setup requires that you are already using authentication services Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.


How to obtain your secret key credentials from Atlassian

Here's a video on how to get the credentials you will need from Atlassian.


Below is a summary of the steps displayed in the video. Please note that you must be logged in to Atlassian / Jira access the links.

  1. Click on security

  2. Under Set up two-step verification, write your your Atlassian account password and click Set up

  3. Click Yes, ready to scan code

  4. Click Can’t scan the code and save the key code somewhere secure. This is the code you need to enter into the journey for Dashboards.

  5. Open your authenticator app (i.e. Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator) and add the key code, or you can scan the QR code as well.

  6. Enter the 6-digit code from your authentication app, which will connect your phone.

  7. Save the emergency recovery key and click on Saved, let's finish.

Now that we have our Atlassian and Jira key, let's set up our Dashboard. Please follow the steps below to learn how to do this.


How to set up your Dashboard with 2-Step Verification

Now that we have our Atlassian and Jira key, let's set up our Dashboard. Please follow the steps below to learn how to do this.

Step 1: Go to ScreenCloud and set up your Dashboard as normal, with the phone and authenticator app you just paired your Jira 2FA with.

Step 2: Once you've finished recording your journey, navigate to the Dashboard configuration step where you'll see an error message, indicated below:

Step 3: Enter a credential name and your key code in the fields below:

Step 4: Click Save.

Step 5: Set the Manage Session refresh rate to 15 minutes. See the Manage Session / Refresh Rate guide if this needs to be longer.

Step 6: Click Save and Preview top right. Wait for the Dashboard to load. Once it loads, successfully, the Dashboard is ready to display on your screens.
