Which ScreenCloud Devices Support WPA2-Enterprise and WPA3-Enterprise?

This article will go through which devices support WPA-2 Enterprise and WPA3.

What is WPA2-Enterprise?

WPA2-Enterprise has been the gold standard for wireless network security since its release in 2004, providing robust Wi-Fi security and over-the-air encryption. It is well-suited to large organisations and enterprise networks, offering key advantages including the elimination of shared-password security risks, enhanced authentication controls, dynamic VLAN assignment, and support for Network Access Protection (NAP).

What is WPA3?

WPA3 is the latest generation of Wi-Fi security, introduced in 2018 as the successor to WPA2. It brings stronger encryption, improved protection against brute-force attacks, and better security on open networks. ScreenCloud hardware does not currently support WPA3. If your network enforces WPA3-only mode, you will need to enable a WPA2/WPA3 transition mode on your access points to maintain compatibility with ScreenCloud devices.

Which ScreenCloud Devices Support WPA2-Enterprise?

Not all ScreenCloud devices support WPA2-Enterprise:

SCOS (Station P1 Pro)

SCOS-powered devices fully support WPA2-Enterprise and are the recommended choice for organisations that require enterprise-level wireless security. Learn how to setup SCOS for enterprise networks here.

PIXI

The ScreenCloud PIXI does not support WPA2-Enterprise. If your network uses WPA2-Enterprise authentication, PIXI will not be able to connect. Consider using a wired connection or a separate SSID with a lower security tier for PIXI deployments in enterprise environments.

What if I need a device that supports WPA2-Enterprise or WPA3 networks?

If you require WPA2-Enterprise or WPA3 support but are not using SCOS devices, the following platforms running the ScreenCloud Player app support enterprise-grade wireless security.

Windows 11 offers the most complete support for both WPA2-Enterprise and WPA3. WPA2-Enterprise works across all modern Windows 10 and 11 builds. Standard WPA3-Enterprise requires Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) paired with a compatible Wi-Fi adapter (such as an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 or newer) and up-to-date drivers. The highest tier, WPA3-Enterprise 192-bit security, requires Windows 11 (22H2) and a 12th Generation Intel CPU or newer. For kiosk-mode deployments, a Pro, Enterprise, or Education licence is required. Note that Windows 10 reached end of life in October 2025, so Windows 11 is now the recommended platform for Windows-based signage hardware.

ChromeOS devices support WPA2-Enterprise, but with an important limitation for digital signage deployments. ChromeOS supports 802.1X authentication at the user level only, and device-level certificates are not supported. This means WPA2-Enterprise cannot be configured in kiosk mode, which is the deployment method typically used for digital signage. If you are running ScreenCloud on a ChromeOS device, a WPA2-Personal network or wired Ethernet connection is recommended instead. WPA3 support in ChromeOS kiosk mode is similarly not available.

macOS supports both WPA2-Enterprise and WPA3 natively on macOS Catalina (10.15) or later. WPA3-Enterprise 192-bit security requires an Apple Silicon Mac.

iPadOS supports WPA2-Enterprise and WPA3 natively on iPadOS 13 or later. WPA3-Enterprise 192-bit security requires an iPad (7th generation) or later. It is worth noting, however, that iPadOS is not recommended as a primary digital signage solution with ScreenCloud. The ScreenCloud Player on iPadOS is subject to restrictions imposed by the operating system itself, which can affect reliability and limit functionality compared to dedicated signage hardware.

Android supports WPA2-Enterprise natively from Android 10 onwards.
