All you need to know about ScreenCloud and Android hardware.

Updated this week

Android devices make for great, affordable devices to use with ScreenCloud. When it comes to Android devices, there's a lot of variation, with manufacturers using various versions of Android. To keep it simple though, just remember there are 2 main types of Android devices - devices running standard Android or Android Open Source (AOSP) and Android TV devices.

The main difference is that devices that run standard Android or Android AOSP (like many Android boxes, tablets and phones) have access to the full Google Play store, which means they have support for more business apps and features. On the other hand, devices that run Android TV (like some Android boxes and many TVs) only have access to a limited version of the Google Play store, with support for fewer apps and features.

When it comes to Android boxes and tablets, there are literally hundreds of options, with very different user experiences between them. Because of this we tend not to recommend most Android AOSP, but in theory many Android AOSP devices can work with ScreenCloud, as long as they meet our minimum requirements. If the device you want to use is not on our list of recommended devices though, you'll want to test it to ensure it works well with ScreenCloud.

TVs running Android TV are a different matter though, as the user experience is quite similar between them because of Google's "certified Android TV" program. Because of this we recommend using most TVs running Android TV, as long as they meet our minimum requirements.

For a complete catalog of other hardware we recommend, please review the ScreenCloud website's Hardware page. For an extensive list such as the below for the other operating systems we support, please see here.

Troubleshooting

These troubleshooting steps can help resolve issues with your Android device or display. We recommend that you try these steps before reaching out to support, to see if this might resolve your issue.

    1. Click to the select or right arrow button on your Android device's remote while viewing the ScreenCloud app.

    2. Visit the setting Clear Cache in the right-hand menu that appears.

    3. Select the Clear Cache button available here for the app.

  1. Power cycle the device: Turn it off for a few minutes and then power it back on again.

  2. Update the device or display's OS to the latest version.

  3. Check if the issue and solution already exists in the Help Center's Android player library.

  4. Test and ensure the power adapter of the device is not the issue.

  5. Ensure the device is not overheating by adjusting it's position.

  6. Ensure the device has a strong enough internet connection - See Google's help page.

  7. Delete and re-install the ScreenCloud app from the Google Play store, or by side-loading - Use Replace Device when you see a new pairing code to pair the same screen license.

  8. Delete unnecessary apps so that the device only runs for ScreenCloud.

  9. Perform a factory reset and install the ScreenCloud app from the Google Play store, or by side-loading - Use Replace Device when you see a new pairing code to pair the same screen license.

  10. If the issue is not resolved, the device might be faulty or outdated, and you might need to purchase a newer model. If you have an Android TV, you can purchase a media player to attach to it.
