ChromeOS Hardware

This article covers ChromeOS hardware requirements, supported/unsupported devices, and troubleshooting steps for ScreenCloud issues.

ChromeOS devices like Chromeboxes are great devices for using ScreenCloud (a Chrome Enterprise Upgrade or Kiosk & Signage Upgrade are required to use a ChromeOS device optimally with ScreenCloud, which you can read more about here).


Minimum requirements

  • A device that is not past its Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date (see here)

  • A Chrome Enterprise Upgrade or Kiosk & Signage Upgrade (see here)

  • Dual-core processor or higher (preferably quad-core processor or higher)

  • 4 GB of RAM or higher (preferably 8 GB of RAM or higher)

  • 32 GB of storage or higher (preferably 64 GB or higher)

When selecting a ChromeOS device, choose one with a long remaining Auto Update Expiration (AUE) date to ensure extended security updates and OS support.

Troubleshooting

These troubleshooting steps can help resolve issues with your ChromeOS device or display. We recommend that you try these steps before reaching out to support, to see if this might resolve your issue.

Open ScreenCloud app → Right-click → Settings → Advanced Settings → Select Clear Cache

Check Power Adapter

Confirm the power adapter is functioning properly

Check Device Temperature

Ensure device is not overheating; move to area with better airflow if warm/hot

Confirm strong and stable connection (See here)

Reset ChromeOS and reapply the ScreenCloud Player (See here)

Remove Unnecessary Apps

Ensure device is dedicated to running ScreenCloud only

Perform factory reset → Reinstall and reapply ScreenCloud Player in Google Admin (See here)

Replace Device (If Needed)

If issues persist, consider replacing with a newer model
